The Truth Hurts!

July 8th, 2010 at 07:41 pm

First thank you for the welcome, I really appreciate it a lot Smile

Well I took a big breath yesterday and added up our debt totals. We have almost $60,000 in unsecured debt to pay off. I've had a few tears and now it's time to get on with the job at hand! part of me wants to explain it all, but suffice to say most of it is a result of job loss and a sickness crisis. A year ago we had less than $10,000 debt.

Anyway I want to look forward, not backward from now on.

Yesterday I rang the tax department to tell them I can't pay $500 a month and they agreed I can pay $100 a month for a couple of months till I get work again. I am waiting to hear back about a job at the moment.

I was given a beautiful little moleskin notebook by my daughter (she knows I would never buy anything that extravagant!) and I am going to use it to keep in my purse and track my daily spending.

I've been reading lots of blogs and feel quiet motivated that we can do this!

Bad things happen to good people. Take it one day at a time. You will overcome this debt! I just know it!

I think it must feel good to know the full amount of debt. Just the facts, right? Now to see that number go down, that will be full of great emotion. Smile We are cheering you on.

You are already on the right path...you added it up and owned up to it and are now making plans on paying it off! Good job!

Congrats! You took that first, extremely hard step and added everything up. The tears were good - now get to work! You can do this! Smile

Thats about what we are at. I feel your pain!! I keep my receipts in an envelope in my purse and pull them out every evening to post on here. Then, at the end of the month, I can add up each category and see what I spent. Good luck!

You have all of the pieces in place to lead yourself out of debt, it will just take dedication to the cause. The good thing is that you are putting it out there in a blog to keep yourself accountable, even to people you don't know, about doing so! That is one of the best forms of insurance for success in this effort. Good luck to you!
